The Weather Station Optimization Code used for weather station optimization analysis relies on a technique known as Maximum Entropy Modeling (MaxEnt), which quantifies how biogeophysically similar a given location is to areas where weather stations are currently deployed—and thus can identify areas where a station may be needed. This code, along with preprocessed predictor variables and a database of current station locations, will be packaged and made freely available.
The Extreme Weather Team is helping utility companies identify blindspots and optimize the location of weather stations.
