Extreme Weather and Wildfire
Available: October 2021
The Weather Station Optimization Code used for weather station optimization analysis relies on a technique known as Maximum Entropy Modeling (MaxEnt), which quantifies how biogeophysically similar a given location is to areas where weather stations are currently deployed—and thus can identify areas where a station may be needed. This code, along with preprocessed predictor variables and a database of current station locations, will be packaged and made freely available.

Weather Station Optimization
The Extreme Weather Team is helping utility companies identify blindspots and optimize the location of weather stations.
Better weather data will allow more accurate forecasts, allowing officials to take steps to mitigate the impacts of wildfire on infrastructure and assets.
